The meeting notes detail the case of Jesse Kipf, a US man who was sentenced to 81 months in jail for faking his own death by hacking government systems and officially marking himself as deceased. Kipf accessed Hawaii’s Death Registry System using a physician’s credentials and created a “case” that recorded his own death, certifying it with the digital signature of the doctor. He then used other credentials to access other states’ death registries, private business networks, governmental, and corporate networks, and attempted to sell access to these networks on the dark net. Kipf also tried to evade child support payments and faced charges for using stolen credit cards. Upon release, he will be required to pay over $195,000 to cover both overdue child support payments and the damage he inflicted on the computers he accessed.
