India’s Ministry of Home Affairs announced plans to train 5000 “Cyber Commandos” over five years to combat cyber crime. Other initiatives include a Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre, a cyber crime coordination platform, and a registry of suspected cyber criminals. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre will coordinate prevention efforts and promote a national cyber crime helpline.
The meeting notes provide details about India’s comprehensive plan to combat cyber crime, including the training of 5000 “Cyber Commandos” over the next five years. The Ministry of Home Affairs outlined initiatives such as the establishment of a Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre and a centralized cyber crime coordination platform. There are also plans for a national-level state registry of suspected cyber criminals, emphasizing the need for inter-state coordination to counter cyber threats. These efforts are under the purview of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), which is also conducting public awareness campaigns and providing a national cyber crime helpline. The minister highlighted India’s significant role in digital payments and the necessity of protecting against digital fraud, considering the rapid increase in internet-connected local governments. Additionally, the I4C has issued numerous advisories and trained over 1100 officers in cyber forensics.
