A new Beijing-linked cyber espionage group called Salt Typhoon has breached US internet service providers, possibly preparing for future cyber attacks, according to The Wall Street Journal. This follows a similar intrusion by a different Chinese group, Flax Typhoon, targeting critical infrastructure. Experts suggest these activities are part of a larger strategy outlined in China’s 100-Year Strategy.

Based on the meeting notes, it appears that there are ongoing concerns about Beijing-linked cyber espionage groups targeting US internet service providers and critical infrastructure. The notes highlight multiple incidents involving different groups, such as Salt Typhoon and Flax Typhoon, engaging in data breaches and potential preparation for future cyberattacks.

There is also a mention of government agencies accusing the Flax Typhoon group of amassing a significant amount of compromised data, including details of 1.2 million records. Additionally, the meeting notes indicate that various security experts have expressed concerns about the extensive infiltration of US infrastructure by Chinese state-sponsored cyber spies and the need for heightened awareness regarding supply chain infiltration.

It is evident from the notes that there is a sense of urgency and growing awareness of the persistent threat posed by these cyber espionage activities, and the need for proactive measures to address these security challenges.
