Google has recently filed two lawsuits against cybercriminals who abused its AI chatbot, Bard, for cyber scams. The first lawsuit targets individuals who ran social media ads enticing users to download Bard, but instead served them malware to compromise their social media accounts. Google has reported more than 300 takedowns related to this cybercriminal group.

The second lawsuit accuses malicious actors of using Google’s AI tools to create multiple Google accounts and file fake copyright complaints against competing businesses. These fraudulent claims resulted in the removal of over 100,000 businesses’ websites, causing significant financial losses and wasted employee hours.

Google’s general counsel, Halimah DeLaine Prado, highlighted the importance of establishing clear rules against frauds, scams, and harassment in the context of emerging AI tools. By taking legal action and working with government officials, Google aims to bring these scams to public awareness and promote a safer internet for everyone.
