Microsoft is expanding its Copilot AI assistant to Windows 10 via update KB5032278 for version 22H2, previously tested with Windows Insiders. Initially available on Windows 11, Copilot is releasing in select global markets and requires horizontally positioned taskbars. The update includes 18 fixes/improvements, but December’s preview will be skipped due to holidays.
Clear Takeaways from the Meeting Notes:
1. Microsoft has begun deploying its Copilot AI assistant in the November 2023 non-security preview update KB5032278 for Windows 10 version 22H2.
2. Windows 10 Insiders with Home and Pro editions and non-managed eligible systems received Copilot access two weeks earlier.
3. The AI assistant was initially released for Windows 11 22H2 in September and is now also active by default on Windows 11 23H2 devices.
4. The Copilot preview in Windows 10 is being rolled out selectively in certain global markets, with a primary focus on North America, parts of Asia, and South America. More markets will be added gradually.
5. To try Copilot early on Windows 10, users can enable “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” in the Windows Update section of the Settings and then check for updates.
6. Currently, Copilot is not compatible with Windows configurations that have the taskbar positioned vertically. To use Copilot, the taskbar should be horizontal at the top or bottom of the screen. A fix for this will be provided in a future update.
7. The KB5032278 update is optional, focusing on improvements and bug fixes, rather than security patches.
8. The Windows 10 KB5032278 update includes 18 bug fixes and improvements, such as new app default functionality, sign-in screen Windows Update opt-in notifications, a fix for IE mode tabs issue, a cursor movement lag fix, and a solution for the touch keyboard not appearing during OOBE.
9. The complete list of fixes and improvements can be found in the KB5026436 support bulletin published by Microsoft.
10. The December 2023 preview update will be skipped due to reduced operations over the holiday season, and normal release cycles will resume in January 2024, with a security release still expected in December 2023.
