Axiad announced the findings of its 2023 State of Authentication Survey, revealing that phishing is the most feared cyberattack, with 88% of respondents feeling prepared to defend against password-based attacks despite 52% falling victim. Despite this, 93% still use passwords, with 45% planning to adopt passwordless technology. Axiad urges action to combat cybercriminals.

Key takeaways from the meeting notes are as follows:

1. The 2023 State of Authentication Survey conducted by Axiad revealed that 39% of respondents fear phishing attacks the most, and 49% believe it is the attack most likely to happen.

2. Despite 88% feeling prepared to defend against password-based cyberattacks, 52% reported falling victim to such attacks within the last year.

3. The survey indicated that 93% of respondents are still using passwords for business, citing reasons such as fear of change (64%), potential need to replace technology (54%), time constraints (51%), and lack of staff (25%).

4. 45% of respondents plan to use passwordless technology, and 27% intend to use phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication (MFA) over the next year.

5. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) had the most impact on respondents’ organizations’ authentication strategies, followed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

6. Axiad’s co-founder and co-CEO, Bassam Al-Khalidi, emphasized the rising threat landscape and the need for organizations to implement passwordless authentication and phishing-resistant MFA to combat advanced cybercriminals.
