US Says 19 People Charged Following 2019 Takedown of xDedic Cybercrime Marketplace

The US Justice Department charged 19 individuals in relation to the xDedic cybercrime marketplace takedown in 2019. The marketplace facilitated the sale of stolen server credentials and personal information. Those charged include administrators, buyers, and sellers, with sentences ranging from probation to 78 months in prison. Additionally, extradition is pending for two suspects in the UK.

From the meeting notes, we can conclude that the US Justice Department has charged a total of 19 individuals involved in the xDedic cybercrime marketplace, which was responsible for the sale and purchase of stolen server credentials and personal information. The marketplace offered over 700,000 credentials associated with servers housed by various types of organizations worldwide.

The administrators of the website, Alexandru Habasescu and Pavlo Kharmanskyi, have been arrested and sentenced to 41 and 30 months in prison, respectively. Dariy Pankov, a top seller, has been extradited from the Republic of Georgia and sentenced to 60 months in prison. Allen Levinson, a top buyer, has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for his involvement in obtaining information from hacked accounting firm servers to file false tax returns with the US government.

Other individuals involved in the cybercrime enterprise are from Ukraine, the UK, Nigeria, and various states in the US, with sentences ranging from 5 years probation to 78 months in prison. Additionally, extradition of two suspects from the United Kingdom is pending, and there are five individuals whose sentencing is still pending.

These developments are related to other cybercrime cases such as the arrest of four Nigerians in Europe over US charges involving hacking and fraud, the sentencing of a Los Angeles SIM swapper to 8 years in prison, and the arrest and charges brought against a Russian national in the US over their role in LockBit ransomware attacks.
