Lending firm LoanDepot suffered a ransomware attack, leading to the theft of personal data from over 16.9 million individuals. Unauthorized access to systems occurred between January 3rd and 5th, compromising sensitive information such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and financial account details. Free identity protection and credit monitoring services are being offered.
Based on the meeting notes, it is clear that LoanDepot experienced a significant data breach that impacted approximately 16.9 million individuals. The breach involved unauthorized access to sensitive personal information including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and financial account numbers. This information was accessed between January 3rd and January 5th, 2024, by an unauthorized third party. LoanDepot has confirmed that ransomware was involved in the incident and the group responsible, Alphv/BlackCat, has claimed responsibility and is attempting to sell the stolen data. In response, LoanDepot is offering free identity protection and credit monitoring services to impacted individuals, as well as encouraging them to remain vigilant for any suspicious activity. The US government is also offering up to $10 million for information that could lead to the identification of the BlackCat leaders.
