Microsoft confirms that the April 2024 Windows security updates disrupt VPN connections across various Windows platforms. Affected versions include Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows Server 2008 onwards. Microsoft is investigating the issue and advises users to seek help through specific support channels. While no immediate fix is available, users can temporarily address the VPN problems by uninstalling the security updates.
From the meeting notes, it’s clear that Microsoft has confirmed that the April 2024 Windows security updates are causing VPN connection failures for various Windows versions, including Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows Server 2008 and later. While the root cause behind these VPN failures is still being investigated, Microsoft suggests that temporary relief can be achieved by uninstalling the security updates; however, doing so will remove all security fixes in addition to resolving VPN issues. Home users are advised to use the Windows Get Help app for support, while small business and large enterprise customers should reach out via the dedicated “Support for Business” portal. It’s also important to note that Microsoft has faced similar VPN issues in the past, such as major L2TP/IPsec VPN speed issues in April 2023 and emergency updates in January 2022 to address L2TP VPN issues.
