MediSecure, an Australian digital prescription services provider, revealed that data stored on its systems until November 2023 was compromised in a recent ransomware attack. The incident, originating from a third-party provider, impacted personal and health information, related to prescriptions delivered through its system. The company assured that the cyber incident does not affect Australia’s digital health network.
From the meeting notes, it is evident that Australian digital prescription services provider MediSecure experienced a ransomware attack that compromised data stored on its systems up until November 2023. The incident, announced by the company last week, originated from a third-party provider and affected both personal and health information of patients as well as healthcare providers. The compromised information is related to prescriptions delivered through its system until November 2023. However, it is emphasized that MediSecure is not a current participant in Australia’s digital health network, and thus, the cyber security incident does not impact the prescribing and dispensing of medication. The Australian government’s Department of Home Affairs also confirmed that the incident has not affected the national prescription delivery service, eRx, and that consumers can continue to access medicines safely. It was also mentioned that the affected individuals will be notified, and technical and forensic investigations are ongoing. No ransomware group claiming responsibility for the attack has been identified at this time.
