A bug in Windows 10 causes apps to show an “Open With” dialog box instead of executing tasks when right-clicked. This can affect various apps, including Calculator, Outlook, Teams, and others. There’s also a bug in Windows 11’s Photos app preventing it from launching, with Microsoft working on a fix for a future update.
It appears that there are two separate issues outlined in the meeting notes.
The first issue pertains to Windows 10 apps displaying an “Open With” dialog box instead of executing the selected task when right-clicking on the app icon in the Start Menu or taskbar. This issue affects various Windows apps, including Calculator, Microsoft Outlook (New), Microsoft Teams, Snip & Sketch, and Sticky Notes. Although Microsoft suggests manually performing the operations within the app, it has been observed that the dialog box did not impact the functionality of the programs during tests conducted by BleepingComputer.
The second issue is specific to Windows 11, where the Microsoft Photos app may fail to launch after updating from the Windows Store. An error message containing the Access Denied error code (‘Exit Status: -2147024891’) might be displayed, primarily when the ‘Prevent non-admin users from installing packaged Windows apps policy’ or its equivalent is enabled. Microsoft has stated that they are currently working on a solution for this issue and will provide an update in the near future.
These notes provide a clear summary of the current issues and the steps being taken by Microsoft to address them.
