Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago has been hit by a cyberattack, compromising personal information of 791,000 patients. Cybercriminals disrupted the hospital’s systems, affecting patient portal, medical records, and communications. The investigation is ongoing, and the hospital is offering identity protection services to affected individuals for 24 months.

From the meeting notes, it is evident that Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago experienced a cyberattack resulting in the compromise of personal information of 791,000 patients. The attack, attributed to the Rhysida ransomware gang, disrupted the hospital’s systems, including its patient portal, communications, and access to medical records.

The hospital’s investigation is ongoing, with the cybercriminals having accessed the systems between Jan. 26 and 31, 2024. Information compromised includes a wide range of personal data such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, medical records, and more. The hospital has assured that no ransom was paid, and it is following standard response procedures.

Lurie Children’s Hospital has taken steps to inform affected individuals and is providing 24 months of Experian Identity Works as well as a dedicated call center for addressing concerns about the cyberattack. While the nature and scope of the attack are still being determined, the hospital remains open and operational during the investigation.
