A 17-year-old was arrested in the UK for involvement in cyberattacks, including one on MGM Resorts. The teenager was released on bail. MGM suffered a ransomware attack, resulting in $110 million in costs. The AlphV/BlackCat ransomware group claimed responsibility. Caesars Entertainment also fell victim to a ransomware attack. Multiple arrests related to cybercrime have recently occurred.

Based on the meeting notes provided, it appears that a 17-year-old has been arrested in the UK in connection with cyberattacks targeting multiple organizations, including MGM Resorts. The arrest was part of a global investigation into a large-scale cybercrime group known for hacking large organizations worldwide and deploying ransomware. The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of Blackmail and Computer Misuse Act offenses and has been released on bail.

The attack on MGM occurred on September 10, 2023, resulting in the company taking many of its systems offline, impacting its casinos, website, email systems, and systems used for bookings, reservations, and digital hotel room keys. The costs associated with the incident were confirmed to exceed $110 million.

Furthermore, it was mentioned that a subgroup of the AlphV/BlackCat ransomware group claimed responsibility for hacking MGM, and shortly after, Caesars Entertainment fell victim to a ransomware attack as well. The cybergang reportedly switched to RansomHub and Qilin ransomware after BlackCat pulled an exit scam earlier this year.

Additionally, it was noted that a British man was previously arrested for an alleged leadership role in the Scattered Spider gang, and another alleged member of the group, a 19-year-old from Florida, was also previously arrested.
