Chinese national Song Wu, employed by AVIC, was indicted in the U.S. for spear-phishing to access NASA, universities, and private companies’ software. The stolen data could be utilized in aerospace and military applications. Another Chinese national, Jia Wei, was separately charged for infiltrating a U.S. communications firm. In the UK, three men pleaded guilty to running a website that enabled cybercriminals to bypass banks’ anti-fraud checks.

Based on the meeting notes, it seems that a Chinese national, Song Wu, has been indicted in the U.S. for conducting a multi-year spear-phishing campaign to obtain unauthorized access to computer software and source code from organizations such as NASA, research universities, and private companies. These activities were allegedly carried out in connection with his employment at the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), a Chinese state-owned aerospace and defense conglomerate. Additionally, it is mentioned that the U.S. Department of Justice alleged that the cybercriminal also targeted employees at NASA, the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Army, as well as individuals employed in major research universities and private sector companies in the aerospace field.

Furthermore, coinciding with Song Wu’s indictment, another Chinese national, Jia Wei, a member of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), was also indicted for infiltrating a U.S.-based communications company to steal proprietary information related to civilian and military communication devices.

This meeting note also includes information about cybercriminal activities in the UK, where three individuals pleaded guilty to running a website that enabled cybercriminals to bypass banks’ anti-fraud checks and take control of bank accounts.

The notes provide a comprehensive overview of the cybercrime activities and the legal actions taken against those involved, shedding light on the concerted efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat such criminal activities.
