FBCS, a debt collection agency, suffered a data breach impacting 4.2 million individuals. Comcast and Truist Bank were affected, exposing substantial customer data. FBCS stated that impacted individuals received 12 months of identity theft protection. Truist Bank also faced a breach, with the extent of impact not fully disclosed.
It looks like the meeting notes are about a data breach at Financial Business and Consumer Solutions (FBCS), impacting various companies, including Comcast Cable Communications and Truist Bank. The breach, which occurred between February 14 and February 26, 2024, led to the unauthorized access and theft of personal information, such as full names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, account information, and driver’s license numbers or ID card details.
Initially believed to have affected 1.9 million people, the number of individuals impacted by the breach increased to 3.2 million in June and eventually to 4.2 million in July. FBCS’s financial situation has reportedly deteriorated as a result of the breach, and entities indirectly affected will be responsible for the notification and remediation processes.
Comcast discovered that its customer data was compromised after FBCS initially assured them that no customer data was affected. Approximately 273,703 Comcast customers were impacted, and those affected were offered 12 months of free identity theft protection services.
Similarly, Truist Bank also notified its customers of the data breach, with the specific type of information impacted varying for each individual. The number of customers affected by this incident hasn’t been specified.
Furthermore, Truist Bank recently confirmed a separate breach that occurred in October 2023, after a threat actor leaked stolen data on a hacking forum.
